Holger Gerths received a degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University in Berlin. Since 1992 he has worked in the IT sector as a consultant and developer – focusing on the field of Microsoft products. Most recently he was team leader in development at MIS AG, Darmstadt. In 2003 he founded itbuero gerths. In 2011, he co-founded HI-CHART GmbH together with Markus Wolff, where he serves as managing director.

In the past, Holger Gerths concentrated on relational and OLAP databases.
In collaboration with Rolf Hichert and in the implementation of the SUCCESS concept, he again focused on the development of sophisticated applications using Microsoft-Office, in particular with Excel.
This led again him back to his main customers, the controllers. In 2004, he began. In 2004 he entered a collaboration with Rolf Hichert. This focuses in particular on the implementation of annual reports, and especially visualizations based on MS Excel. Meanwhile, he is able to create virtually any visualization by applying special tricks without programming. To this end, he has conducted extensive research, making him an internationally recognized specialist in the process. Today, hundreds of companies successfully apply the Tips and Tricks he "invented," and which he presents in seminars and consulting projects.

Since 2009, he has worked primarily on the development of a template solution, which uses the Excel Tricks in such a way that sophisticated needs for exhibits can be realized using standard components.

Since mid-2012, this solution is available as a product with a graphic user interface in Excel.
