Simplify content: Less is

more

This concerns simplifying complicated visualizations in such a way that they can be understood faster and easier. Whereas "Avoid noise" involves omitting entire style elements, the aim here is to find the correct and simplest possible style elements.

6.2.1

Simplify elaborate visuals

This point includes dials that one still finds in the frames of dashboard concepts, probably one of the most useless visualizations out there. They are confusing and take up too much space.

6.2.2

Simplify "special and transition effects" in presentations

Animated PowerPoint images are not useful, if anything they merely distract and confuse – unless they were based on a specific concept of meaning. It is recommended to only use the "Appear" function for a gradual setup of the picture.

6.2.3

Simplify crude lines and forms

All disproportionately thick lines and accented forms make comprehension difficult and distract from the actual message.
